If you are active and wear jewelry there is a chance that injury may occur. Taking off jewelry for work or physical activity is a smart move. It can sometimes be very difficult to remove safely.
If you wear a ring and injure your finger quickly remove it before the swelling begins. Using baby oil or even your own spit can help if the swelling has already begun. Elevating the fingers and putting on a cold compress will also manage the swelling for easier removal. If that fails it may need to be cut off at the emergency room.
Jewelers who may have been threatened by titanium ring sales likely started the rumor that titanium is a poor choice due to the metal strength is near impossible to cut. Mens titanium rings could not be created if this were true. Call your local emergency facility for information regarding titanium ring removal.
I have personally cut through titanium rings with my home dremel ( I make jewelry ) with ease. Professionals would not use a dremel obviously. They are equipped with high tech emergency ring cutters. If you are injured and your ring finger is swollen to an unsafe level seek emergency care immediately.
Jewelers have been known to cut rings off of peoples fingers in the past. This is usually due to a finger outgrowing the ring. It is extremely rare though because jewelers have many secret ways of getting tight rings off of fingers. If they do have to cut it off they can with the standard equipment that they use daily. Yes even titanium.
Never try to cut a ring off at home. Too many people have been severely injured doing this. Most injuries occur because the person attempts to use some sort of wire cutter and ends up with a trip to the hospital. Let professionals do this kind of work.
